Your Network has a Direct Impact on your Compensation

Your Network has a Direct Impact on your Compensation

I have been saying this for years.  You can positively impact your personal income by expanding your network.  I believe this cuts across all lines, levels, industries and functions.

There is an article in Forbes “How Women Can Reduce Their Wage Gap” by Kevin Clark and Patrick Maggitti that reinforces this idea.  The article is focused on Women but states at the end that the concept is the same for both men and women.  Their point is that men have traditionally done a better job at building internal corporate relationships and women have an opportunity to close the wage gap by paying more attention to these relationships.

I agree, but I want people to think bigger than just the internal corporate relationships.  Consider expanding and strengthening relationships outside of the current corporate setting- competitors, associations, vendors, consultants, peers in your local market as well as nationally.
